It's ok, as I said, my KNX planner told me that it would be expensive, so I abandoned the idea. I'm not an expert, my idea was that when I come home with my phone in my pocket, my playlist starts and stuff.... and if it's all running in stereo, it gets even more expensive because you can only connect 2 speakers per amplifier....

That was my experience, it doesn't mean my planner knows everything and is the best.... but I shared my experience...

Many roads lead to Rome. Perhaps the planner had a less pragmatic approach in mind than [ruppsn].

I have installed ceiling speakers and the control is done via HifiBerry with Max2Play (LMS or Apple AirPlay both work). With that, you can do everything you want.

Costs per room:
- 2x speakers for a total of 50 euros
- Airtight installation box for ceiling 15 euros
- Hi-Fi-Berry about 50 euros
- Pi for 40 euros
- Cables 5 euros
Total about 160 euros per room

It seems like a DIY solution, but setting up this solution is so easy that anyone who can handle a computer can do it.

I use Edomi for visualization/logic and there are ready-made components for controlling the system via KNX. But there are actually for every logic engine.

I initially had Sonos in mind, but I didn't want to rely on one provider. Who knows what ideas they will have in the future Besides, I had read that they somehow collect data.

Regards

Hi ONeill,

also a very nice solution. I also still have Max2Play lying around here somewhere

Just out of interest: how do you install? Concrete ceilings? Cast-in-place or precast? Single contract or GÜ/GU/BT? I ask because we had a conversation with our shell builder today (single contract) and he estimated about 70 euros per concrete ceiling box in the precast elements.

Yes, dependency on them is a point. But it probably wouldn't be different with any other commercial system. With a "DIY solution" (not meant derogatorily) you are definitely safe here.

As for data collection: I can well imagine that! However, they will also not be able to collect other data than any streaming service – and frankly, they may as well know my listening habits / music taste – if anything, they’ll gain some good taste

Play One with Alexa, however, will never enter my house.

Ah okay, my prices are not entirely accurate, as they are pure material prices.

We built with a timber frame construction and did the electrical work ourselves.

Labor costs will of course be added for me, but it should still be far from 1000 euros.

Ah ok, thanks! For timber frame construction, I would also consider having some additional ceiling boxes for PMs in the electrical setup. Chasing on KS and filigree concrete ceiling boxes really kills the motivation massively [emoji6] Have you ever thought about implementing a video intercom system with Edomi and your Fire tablets? Camera is no problem, only the audio connection is still giving me trouble... sorry, a bit off-topic [emoji51]
