I prefer the gable roof here. It somehow looks more harmonious.
Also, it should be considered that a gable roof is timeless, a shed roof is modern now and in 20 years everyone will find it ugly again.
And if you walk with open eyes through older residential areas, you will notice that shed roofs, for example, were already widely built in the 70s, and many architects' houses of recent generations have a shed roof variant.
It's something special and not exactly the cheapest construction method, often found in houses not exactly suitable for families. I wouldn't call it ugly now - rather, most people cannot identify with these houses because there simply is no window installed there, so due to the height you can't look out and would rather build a storage room than an empty space at height.
