Hello everyone,

as already mentioned here in the past, owning our own property hasn’t worked out for us yet. Instead, we are currently renting again temporarily for a few years. Great garden, but there is currently one problem: the passage between the house and the garage (width about 2.6m) has no gate, and it is also not planned for the landlord to install one. Occasionally, it would still be nice if we could close the passage so that our son stays in the garden.

Normally, one would of course install a suitable gate here, but as mentioned: renting and only for a period of about 3 years. Specifically, this means that we want to find a solution that is as inexpensive as possible and causes little damage to the building structure. I had already considered whether hooks could simply be made in the brick wall and then a panel could be hung there if needed. However, I only find panels about 2.5m wide.

So we have thought back and forth already, but we haven’t come up with anything really great. Do you have any ideas?

Best regards
Malte

For the next 3 years, a secure fence-gate solution for your son, which simultaneously soothes parental nerves and is practical, will cost you less than a pay-TV subscription. Landlord or not, that's money well spent. Of course, I would prefer a simple solution that fits the style – a DIY project with a fixed element from wall to post in a ground sleeve and a movable element with a hinge from the wall to the said post and a simple locking mechanism. The asymmetry of the path in the passage works to your advantage.

Double rod panel fence with gate for 200 euros on ebay.

3-4 bags of ready-mix concrete 10 euros

1 Saturday and done.

What does your landlord allow you to do? The simplest option, especially with regard to damage to the building, would probably be a ground sleeve in the splash protection strip and where the little tree is. Then a double rod mesh panel and two posts. For everything else, I would first clarify what is okay for the landlord and then we can look at what a more stylish solution would cost. Of course, if it's enough for you to just close it occasionally, it at least saves you from buying a gate (those are definitely more expensive).

I’m saying, plugs in the joints, hooks attached, and a soccer goal net hung up. Presumably, it’s just about marking a boundary for a mobile toddler who isn’t going to try to breach this enclosure with criminal intent. Like a playpen or stair gate, a goal net doesn’t offer any "climbing opportunities".
