Partially renew the power line to state-of-the-art technology?

Hello,

Currently, our electrical grid is still protected by Diazed fuses and the cables are two-core. In about 3 years, the cables throughout the entire house are to be renewed.

In 2-3 months we will build an extension. Since our house is still partially rented out, we would at least like to wire the extension according to the current state of technology. Is that possible? Can the new cables be integrated into the old grid?

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

technically it is possible BUT

usually the electrician will stop you from that idea. If you make changes to such old wiring (and I am not talking about replacing a socket) then EVERYTHING actually has to be brought up to current standards. Especially when I read that you only have 2 wires that means no protective earth ... I would already make sure for my own interest that this is changed.

So talk to your electrician whether HE will turn a blind eye and build a temporary solution.

I wouldn’t do it based on your description (without really knowing how it is at your place).

If someone touches a live part because there is no grounding, the electrician will stop me from that...

Thank you for your opinion. In principle, I completely agree with you, but since we still have tenants, as mentioned, I cannot dismantle the whole house...

That is of course possible and even mandatory. It would be completely absurd if you build a new extension and then apply the state of the art from 1960 there.
