It's not that simple when building with a general contractor/BT or "turnkey."
During the construction phase BEFORE handover, only 2 eyes are usually closed by the GC/BT regarding own work, as it is simply not desired that craftsmen have to treat a construction site, i.e. their workplace, with kid gloves. This should also be stated in the fine print for everyone. So it is officially not allowed or desired, but to be done only after acceptance. It doesn't matter whether by a craftsman or oneself.

Annoying: after-treatment, oiling, and over time the differences disappear.
That’s certainly true. I have never built with a GC and almost all our craftsmen took responsibility for the damage they caused. I was not aware that it is different with GCs.
