Paint Ytong wall?

Hello,

is it possible to paint a Ytong wall (inside) directly, or must it be plastered first?
Since I quite like the masonry look, I am wondering if the wall can be painted directly or if there are technical reasons against it.
If it is possible, are there any experience values on how much paint per sqm one should roughly calculate?

For an exterior wall, I wouldn’t do that due to airtightness.

For an interior wall, I would paint with a silicate paint. Although I haven’t applied it on aerated concrete but on KS, it should also work on aerated concrete. Silicate paint has the advantage that it doesn’t form a ‘layer’ but bonds with the substrate (silicification) and should therefore prevent or at least improve the ‘sanding off’ of the aerated concrete block.
