Hello,

I wonder what I should do
we are currently building a semi-detached house and will soon come to the electrical planning

What would you do for the outdoor lamp, constant power or toggle switch inside?

Should we just get a "smart" outdoor lamp with motion detector and light sensor? Does something like that even exist?

or simply inside with a toggle switch to turn on and off (+motion detector)?

We might also want to retrofit a WLAN outdoor camera with light (e.g. Netatmo) (maybe not)

For a camera with light, a toggle switch would be nonsense

What would you do?
I tend to no switch inside (if there is a lamp with light and motion sensor)

For the outdoor lamp, I would always install a switch in between.

How do you want to turn off the lamp? If a motion detector is connected in between, you can't turn off the lamp either.
Then the motion detector acts as a switch. But based on experience, it is hard to reach. That would be annoying.

If a camera is to be connected, you have to lay a 5-core cable. Lamp + motion detector phase + switch, camera constant power.

Hi,
I would always make outdoor lights switchable from the inside. It doesn’t have to be that the lights turn on all night every time a passing hedgehog or cat walks by. That bothers many little animals that come to your garden at night looking for food. In other words, if you have them on constant power, you actually need a "smart" one that you can program for different operating times. That’s too much hassle for me. Apart from the fact that eventually the day will come when you leave for vacation in the middle of the night and then stand in your pitch-dark garden, cursing loudly because your lights don’t turn on...

I’m a big kid myself, but for outdoor lighting: Keep it simple! Switch and that’s it!

Best regards,
Andreas

I forgot that the outdoor lamp in front of my front door is mine (not the one to the garden)

If I don't have a switch then the camera/lamp has to recognize when it is dark and that there is movement.

So that the lamp only turns on when it is dark (so not during the day) and only when there is movement (a camera could even recognize if it is an animal, for example a cat, or a human so that the light only turns on for humans).

We also have a switch inside for the [Brennstelle außen], where the classic exterior lamp at the front door was planned. We installed a lamp with a house number, which basically has a standby light - house number illuminated and the lamp dims to about 20%, then 100% when there is movement. The switch inside has been ON for over 10 years.

Yes, that's what I mean Since you always leave the switch on anyway because the lamp or camera with lamp regulates itself automatically Or am I missing something there? I'm just considering saving myself the "ugly" switch inside
