Hello everyone,

we have a house. Approximate year of construction 1960. Two floors each with about 130m2 living space and 1000m2 land.

The house has some defects. Mold growth in some rooms. No insulation in the attic... there is a draft through the windows... etc...

No external insulation, as soon as the heating is off, everything gets cold in a short time.

Electricity costs are about 300 euros per month.

My husband actually doesn’t want to take on any more debt, as there is very little equity. (Repayment of the loan, two children)

But I am afraid of what the house will look like in a few years.

What can / should be done here?
Do you have any advice..

Thank you very much HoMa77

Do you heat with electricity or why is the consumption so high?

This is not meant to be offensive, but could it be that you have less of a house problem and more of a financial problem?

I don’t understand now..

Why the consumption is so high, I don’t know.. we have completely normal appliances ..
It increases a bit every year.

Why should we have a financial problem? We have debts... (but many do)
we are paying them off....

Actually, it’s about the house, the "slight mold, the non-existent insulation etc..

But well, what else am I supposed to say now?
Why are you writing if you’re not helping me!

As I said, it was not meant badly, I just gained the experience in my own family circle. A bit exaggerated, but following the motto, if the gas supplier doesn't deliver anymore, then I'll just heat with electricity. But that would go too far here. So 300 € just for electricity seems way too much to me, if you don’t heat with electricity. I believe the electricity consumption for a family is about 4-5000 kWh, which should correspond to roughly 1200-1500 €/year. Maybe you should check that or have it checked.

Well, I can hardly imagine anymore that you’re not heating with electricity. Maybe someone is tapping into your line?

It’s hard to say anything about the necessary renovation measures here. One doesn’t know the damage patterns and accordingly not the necessity. Find yourself an energy consultant or similar and get advice. That costs a small amount once but then you know for sure.

Best regards

The electricity costs probably come from construction dryers or dehumidifiers?!
