Hello dear experts! I would like to hear your opinion on the subject of underfloor heating. My parents have underfloor heating in the hallway and kitchen of their house. Back when they built the house, they were told that you do not install underfloor heating in the bedroom or children's room, and therefore there is none in these rooms. What do you say about that? Is it true that underfloor heating is not installed there? And for what reason?

Best regards

No, that is nonsense. It depends on when your parents built. In the past, underfloor heating systems were different (partially) than today. Because in the past, they were designed to have warm feet and today to heat houses.

Guess what happens in today's tightly built houses when you don't have heating in the bedroom....., right, you get mold. Not only airing but also heating is important. In the apartment (WDVS) we didn't heat the bedroom in the first month when there were below zero temperatures. The consequence appeared 1.5 months later. Mildew stains in the upper corner and above the window along the entire window side.

I believe the alternative is not no heating, but radiators. And there is some truth to that. It is difficult to set the FHZ to, say, 16 degrees. It always makes the bedroom too warm. So we open the window and end up heating the garden as well. With a radiator, you just turn the thermostat to one and that's it. If you want it a bit warmer, turn it to two, and that happens quickly. So, in bedrooms, I actually find the radiator better. Unfortunately, no one advised us like that.

That’s not possible with every heating technology, right? With gas, you might be able to connect a radiator, but with a heat pump?

Thank you for the answers! Yes, it was quite a while ago when my parents built. I believe that the real purpose back then was to have warm feet. My parents definitely did not heat with the underfloor heating. Maybe it's just too warm for sleeping with an UFH. I myself have always only heated with radiators so far, but I find UFH pleasant because then, of course, the floor is not so cold.
