No savings when building 2 semi-detached houses at the same time?

we have just bought a plot of land with the prescribed type of construction: semi-detached house. Now my parents-in-law have bought the neighboring plot. Of course, we went to our prefab house planner with them and thought that we could now share some costs (travel, crane, construction equipment, etc.).

However, the site manager told us that despite the simultaneous construction of the house (2 individually planned semi-detached houses), they need 2 construction teams and 2 cranes, etc. That means we would not gain any advantages from the whole situation. (Except that we get along very well with our neighbors and can also agree on the common appearance.)

Are really 2 cranes needed for basically ONE SEMI-DETACHED HOUSE?
We are a bit confused whether the site manager (since we have already signed) wants to impose something on us and charge us more?

I can tell you from my own experience that it is better to have 2 cranes there. During the shell construction phase and when unloading all the bricks, ceilings, stairs, chimney, etc., a second crane is very useful. What you can save on, however, are things like Dixi toilets, construction trailers, and especially construction power/construction water, etc. All of that can be shared....

It is not absolutely necessary, but since you have already signed, it doesn’t matter at all whether YOU believe it is necessary or not...
