evening,
I plan to buy my parents' house next year. It was built in 1939 and only has a fireplace for heating, which is located downstairs in the living room (basement, ground floor, 1st floor, 2nd floor) and vents the "exhaust gases" directly from the living room to the outside. When I was a child, at least on the ground floor there were those power-consuming night storage heaters, but they were removed many years ago.
Now I want to move in there next year and do proper renovations (thermal insulation inside/outside), but before I start the interior insulation I would like to have a complete heating system installed.
What would you recommend?
-gas? (there is a gas line in the street)
- oil?
Which will probably be cheaper over the next few years (of course prices always keep rising, but which would be cheaper compared to the other?)
What would a complete system cost? Everything must be new since there is nothing! From the burner to the radiators.
Hot water is heated by an instantaneous water heater, which should preferably run on gas/oil if this type is cheaper.
I naturally want to keep the fireplace in the living room. But in winter it used to be so cold that the pipes in the basement would freeze. For years my parents have been heating besides the fireplace with propane gas bottles and those heating stoves (those rectangular, ugly rolling things).
