New development areas - Internet speed

Hello,

we are currently interested in building a house and are therefore looking for plots of land. These are mostly located in new development areas - since we do not live in a metropolis and do not necessarily want to move there, all suitable plots are in smaller towns. Since this is also currently the case and we are blessed with a 400,000 DSL connection, this does not necessarily mean anything. Nevertheless, I am having massive difficulties in inquiring about the internet speed. Many like to refer to "yeah, we have to see once the house is built" - I actually wonder who still builds houses nowadays if the available speed might be 16 MBIT or lower. Who is responsible for this?

For example, the plots in the [Grünen Ring] are currently interesting: xn--grner-Ring-beb.de

However, due to the aforementioned problem, everything is relatively difficult. I have had preliminary telephone conversations with Telekom, but they couldn’t tell me much and pointed out that they urgently need a street & house number. These simply do not exist yet. Both the Beta and the HBS company stated that Telekom & Unitymedia had laid fiber optics in the development area. So I got in touch with Telekom again (anyway, way too often by now...). They do not know anything about such a development area, and they definitely cannot confirm fiber optics; in the surrounding area, there is copper. Each contact at Telekom told me something different about the possible speed. There are only two development areas in the region that will be expanded this year, and this one is not included. I also contacted Unitymedia, but they couldn’t tell me anything about it either; they don’t know the development area and are not even willing to check without a street & house number - that would make no sense. Finally, I got in touch with the responsible municipality, but even there: "Telekom is laying or has been laying fiber optics there since January this year. We do not know more." I seriously wonder how such statements can be made - are they inventing heaps of things to sell the plots? Is Telekom simply completely incompetent? Who would have to know which lines are now installed in the development area and what speed is possible?

Looking forward to feedback.

Best regards

Telekom - Builder Service. No one else at Telekom can and may give you information about new/expansion areas. If the building area is large enough and there are no other reasons against it, Telekom now builds out with fiber optic (exceptions prove the rule). However, it is important that it is a complete new development of a building area.

Often, especially in rural areas, new building areas were basically developed/opened x years ago. If you failed to bring the right providers on board then, it looks bleak. That really gives you gray hair. What helps, but of course is no guarantee, is to find out the cable route (search KVZ, ask the municipal building authority) and find out the bandwidth via the availability check of the last house number.

Mmmmh, what do the people who have already built or are currently building in the [Grünen Ring] say? At the moment, the plots for the 2nd development phase are already being marketed there. You probably won't get better information. Due to the location, I assume that at least VDSL will be available.

Isn't Telekom even obligated to connect all newly developed residential areas with fiber optic?

However, my neighbor also had your doubts and therefore chose the municipal utilities as a partner instead of Telekom, and they promised him from the beginning to lay fiber optic to his place.

No Deutsche Telekom is only obliged to provide basic services: connection to the public telecommunications network and access to telephony services. Google "BNetzA Versorgung mit Telekommunikation"

Oops, always had something like that in the back of my mind, but always just skimmed over it and didn't think about it further
