Hello everyone,

we are currently planning a semi-detached house and have to decide which heating system to install.

The house is oriented south and will have a gable roof.
The living area will be about 140m².

Since we have a forest and I would like to have a tunnel fireplace, we are not sure how or what to do with the heating.

The current consideration is to use a THZ 403 SOL from Tecalor, since we also want to have a ventilation system. And to use this for hot water (solar) and heating. We would not connect the fireplace to the water, which I personally find a pity.

In the transitional period (when it is only about 15 degrees outside) I do not really want to heat up the fireplace either.

Therefore, here is my question: Is there a cost-effective way to implement the ventilation and the fireplace and get the optimal outcome here?

Thank you very much for your help

Mark

Hello Mark,

I would advise you to save yourself the connection of the chimney to the underfloor heating anyway => expensive and not really sensible.

The more important question, however, is: have you planned a basement? If yes, you can generally forget about installing the THZ in the basement, unless the basement is well 'stepped out' by about a meter => the THZ needs two exterior walls, each for supply and exhaust air with at least 2.0 m distance between supply and exhaust. If you plan a ground-level utility room, the same applies and it should be at least 10 sqm, since the unit itself also needs to stand about 80 cm away from the wall!

If you are interested in a combined unit – Tecalor has an air-water heat pump + controlled ventilation with heat recovery integrated – then why do you want to spend a further 3,000 EUR on the (then unnecessary) solar system? Who recommended this system to you?

Best regards

Hello construction expert,

the developer recommended the device to us.
We are building a basement. Can the system draw air through, for example, a pipe in the garden (similar to what I read about a Plugit)?

Would you then completely omit solar? Also looking to the future, with electricity becoming more expensive and hot water being heated "almost" for free with solar?

Thanks for the quick reply

Hello Mark,

I cannot answer this question for you, as I have not encountered this case before. The Tecalor technical service should be able to provide you with precise information on this – I would only inquire there; with all due respect to your developer, I always appreciate short and direct answers – without transmission losses ;)

Provided that the system was properly calculated – yes. What use is solar on the roof if the air-water heat pump already takes care of heating the domestic hot water – and on summer days (otherwise the solar system doesn’t really work either) it doesn’t even cost any extra money – apart from the operation of the system, but that is shared by all heating systems? It is always forgotten that no heating system runs without electricity ;)

Kind regards

Good question, of course the seller ;) There probably won't be an exact sizing and design here.

Best regards
