I just checked, at Haering they are called differently now, although it seems only the name was modernized; sounds cooler -
It is probably the "Hawering Dekoquarz-fein" with the 1mm grains. The pictures don’t show it well, I only have older pictures and those don’t show the plastering result but rather life captured there.
Ultimately, it is a white paint mixed with very fine, 1mm quartz sand, which is then applied evenly or always in the same way onto the pre-primed plaster (broad brush). You can tint it as you like and then you have the single-color wall/ceiling where you see the painting direction or technique. Overall, it looks absolutely calm and even, yet not too smooth, which forgives small unevenness.
Back then, the Mediterranean style was trendy, so I took a suitable glaze (e.g. Caparol) and applied it consistently in the “cross-stroke” technique!!!! It should be done by one person only, otherwise you will see the difference later. It looks calm and you can play with it; also it is super easy to apply. We had zero experience then; the painter where we bought it explained it to us.
Without glaze, it can look just as simple and modern.
Once I tried 2mm on the ceiling but it didn’t look good because I couldn’t distribute the 2mm grains well (by me); also it was too coarse for my taste.
