In recent years, I have had to move so often because of my job that I no longer feel like "mastering" it alone. If money is tight, of course, then it can't be helped. But otherwise, I would always hire a moving company. It saves so much stress and time (if you have a reputable company on hand), and by now it's worth it to me. With age (and the size of the family), more and more things come along, so it's no longer just about lugging 5 boxes and a wardrobe around.

Hi I found the discussion about the search function. I have to move soon, but I have collected a lot of very large and heavy items. That’s why only a moving company is an option for me. I found a very cheap one, but I am not sure if my things will arrive intact with that company. Have you had positive experiences with moving companies that you want to share?

Hello Nicy14,

So my experience with moving companies is: cheap = bad. For my first big move, I also chose the cheapest offer (there simply wasn't more in the budget). The result: the truck arrived over an hour late, instead of three people there were only two movers, and their jaws dropped when they saw the boxes of all the stuff. Apparently, many transport items were not even on the loading list, although I had provided everything in full beforehand.

Anyway, they certainly weren't in a hurry and worked at a snail's pace. In the end, we had to carry most of the stuff down ourselves, after all, we wanted to get the move done that day. Some things also got damaged, but we only noticed that while rearranging the furniture. You should definitely make sure to check all the furniture again to see if everything is still intact before you pay anything. Okay, maybe it was an exception in our case, but I've also heard from many acquaintances that they had bad experiences with particularly cheap companies.

Since I have moved several times due to my job, an experience has emerged alongside the points mentioned here. The prices of moving companies vary regionally. There can quickly be a difference of 1-2 TEUR.

If someone, for example, moves from Munich to Leipzig, they naturally look for their moving company in Munich. Due to the wage and price structure as well as demand, prices will be relatively high here. However, what prevents the customer from looking for their provider in Leipzig - or taking one that is along the route? The distance traveled is the same for the company (as long as it does not have a follow-up order right away). Whether from Munich to Leipzig and back or from Leipzig to Munich and back. There can be price differences here, which benefit me as a customer.

The only argument against this is: There are companies where a moving consultant comes to the house. They inspect the items and estimate the volume, based on which they then create a price offer. This service of course cannot be provided by a moving company from a distance. ([Der Tipp funktioniert natürlich nicht, wenn man innerhalb der gleichen Region umzieht.])
