I have a question. In the kitchen, between the wall and the edge of the sink, there is a silicone seal. Now I have noticed that along the silicone strip there is a bit of mold. Not a thick layer or anything, just a little. But the wall is fine. Now I’m wondering what I could do about it.

Regards,
Mara

hello!

this mold is called black mold. it settles in places where it is often damp. there are several ways to get rid of it. you can clean the mold away with certain cleaning agents or with acetic acid, but if you want to do it a bit more professionally, you should remove the old silicone, for example with silicone remover, and then reapply the silicone.

Hello mara,

Listchecker is right! Either you try a mold remover or you remove the silicone. I would just remove the silicone right away. The silicone is probably already old.

hello everyone,

thanks for your tips! yes, the silicone is really very old. can the mold actually penetrate from underneath again? or is that impossible?
best,
Mara

well, you should remove and renew the old silicone. Then the mold will be gone, since it settled on top of the silicone, it cannot come from underneath ;-)

hello, remove the old silicone and clean the mold-infested area thoroughly. preferably with alcohol cleaner or something like that. when the area is clean and dry, then apply new silicone and make sure that no gaps form or any dirt is involved. if you keep this in mind, there should be no further problems. best regards, rosanne
