Hello everyone,

I have a building permit in Baden-Württemberg according to §49 Landesbauordnung for my single-family house to be constructed. Now the question is to what extent planned windows can still be changed without having to get the change approved? If this is even possible at all.
The following specific cases are concerned:
1.) The basement window (with light well) in the technical room (ventilated by controlled residential ventilation) is to be omitted.
2.) A window is to be added in the garage. The garage is located directly at the house, slightly set back, so that the garage door is accessible from the terrace. And a window is to be placed next to the door. The property boundary to the street is on the opposite side.

Can this be done or does it require approval? Does anyone know how this is regulated in Ba-Wü?
Thank you very much

You shouldn't have any problems there. We have a large window next to the front door. After receiving the building permit, we changed the measurements. Before that, I asked the responsible district master builder if we could do that. He told me that windows can always be altered afterwards.

We have also changed some windows in position and size. Our planner said that it is not a problem. Windows facing the neighbors are usually problematic.

It becomes problematic when later changes affect the calculations according to the [Energieeinsparverordnung] and adversely influence them, so that the house may no longer comply with the standards. Examples would be a significant increase in glass surfaces. Retrofitting from triple glazing to double glazing for cost reasons.

Thank you very much for the feedback. I will discuss this with the planner at the next appointment. The [Energieeinsparverordnung] impact will rather be positive, as a basement window will be omitted. The garage is uninsulated anyway.

Windows on the 3 meter boundary directly facing the neighbor are probably not allowed?! So a garage with an outer wall on the boundary and then installing a window there. I think in the past they used frosted glass or something like that?!
