Since our solar thermal system currently brings me a lot of joy, I would like to continue moving on the path of renewable energies and would find it helpful to receive information from you about micro wind power systems (I am not naming a specific company so as not to violate the advertising ban here in the forum) for single-family houses or to hear about your practical experiences with them. I am still at the very beginning.

As is partly already known, our two-person single-family house (zip code 045xx) was built only according to the Energy Saving Ordinance, since we did not understand the regulations, subsidies, calculations, etc. for a more energy-saving house, but we would now like to deal with further steps and also have more free time than during the construction planning period.

Thank you in advance.

Practical experience from a neighbor who is into renewables (among other things two off-grid systems with storage + "regular" photovoltaics). He acquired such a wind turbine a few years ago.

Conclusion: purely a hobby for the good conscience.

Why is that so?

1. You need an exposed location to get the turbine running properly (but this applies to every wind turbine)
2. The turbines are not really micro, they make noise – at least then the discussion about the noisy heat pump becomes irrelevant ;)
3. In terms of efficiency, they are inferior to photovoltaics. So you only get a small output in relation to size and cost

All in all, better to have a north-facing photovoltaic system than micro wind power.

I find the topic interesting and had informed myself a bit about it. The general consensus was always that photovoltaics are clearly better. Photovoltaics are significantly cheaper and more predictable at comparable performance (the sun shines during the day). Additionally, photovoltaics have no moving parts that need maintenance or can break down. And then you have the problem with the wind turbine itself. Close to the ground, you have turbulence caused by trees, neighboring houses, etc., resulting in reduced wind speeds. If attached to the house, you might have vibrations (moving parts again), and you are much more likely to encounter conflicts with building regulations and neighbors.

Since you do not have photovoltaics yet, I would first go in that direction, possibly also with façade photovoltaics or photovoltaics on the garage/garden shed if the still available roof area is too small.

This is what it can look like. Power just over 1kW - if there is enough wind. Mounted on a mast. A few years ago, if I remember correctly, it cost over €2,500. However, it produces less annually than a comparable module.

There are now the new ones from Spain and the USA. I'm very curious about them...

I can see that it is not economical compared to [Photovoltaik], and would probably refrain from it for that reason. Even though I am into [EE]. But I have to say, the wind turbine does look cute. :D
