Hello everyone,

does it make a difference in a detached single-family house without a basement whether the load-bearing layer under the floor slab consists of sand or [Kapillarbrechendem Kies]?

And which one?
- Price-wise?
- Frost protection?
- Load capacity?
- Others?

Thank you for the answers - unfortunately, they only help me to a limited extent. Could you maybe give me a few more details?

So what do you want to hear now? This is probably one of the most important questions regarding the structural stability of a building (which is why the foundation is often referred to in a figurative sense), and you expect blanket answers here in the forum? No way! Get a soil survey with foundation recommendation and talk to your architect about what is better or worse and why. This is all the advice you can get here. It’s no use if you save 500,- EUR and the place is leaning or cracking after a year.

Okay, sorry - I think I expressed myself a bit incorrectly:

For the construction of the foundation slab, a hole is excavated into which sand or gravel is placed and compacted. The foundation slab is then laid on top of that. I'm not concerned with the soil itself, but rather with what is compacted in the hole. What is better there? Sand or [Kapillarbrechendem Kies]? (The soil itself is the same in both cases...)

The soil still has certain properties that must be taken into account in the bedding. It is not as trivial as you think. And the few hundred euros are *very* well invested money.
