Ok, so a DIY solution is no longer one if you tinker with it even more. I need to write that down.
On the topic of "tinkering," I would now like to say something, since the term has been used quite frequently recently, especially in the smart home area. It seems to me that the term has a negative connotation for many people, including somewhat for myself, although sometimes I call myself and even more often others call me a "tinkerer and inventor." In the context of resource conservation and also with regard to our international backlog in patent applications, please consider that without "tinkerers and inventors" like Leonardo Da Vinci, Edison, R. Bosch, Mercedes, Siemens, Elon Musk, our world would be different (Tesla was even called a cobbled-together place today by my highly educated brother (Prof. Dr., Master and Dipl Ing!) because they are always "tinkering" with the firmware of their cars, of course after he ordered one himself  :p) So what I want to say is: tinkering is not necessarily bad, but often rather the motivation to make "a lot" (something better) out of "little." From an IT perspective, for example, KNX is an impossible system to install. (Text only reflects my amateur opinion, barely influenced by some good red wine)
