Hello everyone,

I have set up a double carport (WEKA A1 Duo) as a patio roof in the garden. Although a roof was supplied, I don't trust it. They are thin PVC corrugated sheets. I would prefer to use something more durable as a roof....

Does anyone have experience with OSB overlay boards (tongue & groove) and bitumen roofing membranes on top? Is that possible? Or are there other inexpensive and suitable alternatives for a carport roof?

Thank you in advance :)

Most of the time, EPDM tarps are used for carports, the support system depends on the spacing of the rafters. OSB looks bad from below - better tongue and groove boards.

Whatever you do - think about the statics of the carport. The construction is designed for a lightweight roof. Wind and possibly snow load should not be underestimated. Therefore, I would first trust the plastic roof and see how long it lasts.

Yes, please think about the structural integrity. The carport doesn’t look so solid as if you could just put a heavy roof on it now.
We covered our exit to the garden with trapezoidal sheet metal, the underside with tongue and groove boards. Looks great – I’d find that nice for a seating area too. But probably too heavy for your construction.
With the bitumen roofing membranes, you should consider that especially in the summer, under full sunlight, they tend to "smell" a bit – our carport roof is covered with bitumen corrugated sheets, and when the sun hits them, they do emit a bit. For a carport it’s probably no problem, but for a seating area roof...

If I were you, I would also "first of all" install the supplied panels. If necessary, you can check at the hardware store what kind of PVC panels they have in stock that might seem more stable but don’t necessarily add more weight.

You are right! I didn't consider the statics, especially since the carport only has 9x9 posts...

I will first try the PVC roof. I had also thought about ordinary corrugated iron, but I am afraid it can get quite loud when it rains....
