Hello,

we are still at the very beginning of our planning. We have done some research online about log cabins and Swedish houses. We have also already visited the "normal" prefabricated house providers in the model house park.

So far we have not yet decided, but our tendency definitely leans towards a log cabin or Swedish house. Personally, I prefer the Swedish house, but my husband prefers the log cabin.

Now it also seems that there are quite a few companies, some of which produce partly in Eastern Europe. We have now also read that the types of wood used there are not of the best quality (although there are certainly individual companies that use quality types of wood).

For us, it is relatively difficult to distinguish which provider is reliable.

About us: we are both not craftsmen. We have already laid parquet flooring, installed doors, puttying and insulating. We would like to contribute these as own work. The assembly of the house should therefore be done by the house building company. We do not dare to do that ourselves. We want to use the property as a permanent primary residence.

Looking forward to your answers.

Thank you.

We have had very good experiences with our log house builder from Germany.

If you want to know more, feel free to write.

Many companies produce in Eastern Europe. Local spruce wood is processed. The planks are very thin and better suited for summer houses. The wood is not of as high quality as the dense-grained pine wood from the Arctic Circle in Scandinavia and Finland. In Finland, for example, Kuusamo Blockhaus produces log house kits at the Arctic Circle only from dense-grained pine wood with beam thicknesses up to 275 mm.

There are also providers in Germany who advertise that they use [Polarkiefer]... Talis comes to mind, for example

Guys, take a look at the latitudes where Germany is located. Just from the transport route alone, the ecological footprint of [Polarkiefer] is a case for the criminal files by the time this stuff arrives here. Blessed be the hypocrisy, forever, Amen.

Just go—passing by the cows that are actually not purple—into the real forest and notice the vast amounts of windthrow. Using solid wood is practically the very last thing recommended from a forestry perspective. Wood technology may well be recognized as the high tech that it is, and in recent decades it has produced excellent materials that make wood ecologically suitable for construction use. It doesn’t always have to be steak tartare.
