Hello everyone,

I bought a plot of land a few months ago. The plot is about 1,100 sqm and is buildable according to §34 Baugesetzbuch.

We are still in the planning phase for a bungalow; possibly, we will apply for the building permit by the end of the year or the end of January. The architect is already busy drawing.
Our municipality takes about 2 months to issue the building permit, so the earliest we can start construction is in April.

My acquaintance, a contractor, promised 9-12 months, so the bungalow probably won't be ready to move into until April 2021.

In parallel to our bungalow, we want to build a garden house, 4 x 6 m, for the summer. We will do that on short notice.

The situation is that we (my wife and I) are allowed to live rent-free in my mother’s second apartment, and that can continue for longer.
Nevertheless, we want to move out as soon as possible because the area has meanwhile become a social hotspot. Moreover, every few months we have massive mold infestation that can only be treated symptomatically.

We would like to ask if it is in principle possible to live with two people in a garden house of 24 sqm during the summer (we were thinking roughly April - September)?
Of course, it would not be proper living. We would continue to stay in my mother’s second apartment but would go to our garden house to sleep. We would not sleep there every day, rather 2-3 times per week.
All utilities are already available on the property.

What could the water connection cost?
A simple sanitary connection? washbasin?
We have a camping stove and camping oven.

Do you have experience living in such a small space?

It makes no financial sense at all to install a proper sanitary installation including a wastewater connection. I don't know where you live, but I blindly claim that renting a 24m² studio apartment is cheaper than having a garden house plus connections made. If you still want to go through with the garden house: There are "decent" camping solutions for everything at a fixed price from the online provider of your choice. Just buy. Construction water connection with garden hose for the supply line. Alternatively, electricity and water from the neighbor possible?

Apart from the fact that you also need a building permit for that... and of course you can also sleep in the tent...

... the question arises for me whether by doing this, sometimes here, sometimes there, but always going to mom's for the toilet, you are avoiding the "social hotspot." Where is it? In front of or behind the door?

??? What do you mean? Even an outhouse has to be cleaned occasionally. How do you imagine the wastewater?

Just move into another apartment. What do you think, how good is it to camp next to a construction site? Do you think you feel safer behind boards and plexiglass than in an apartment? It is also unwise to build the garden shed first.

Buy a cheap caravan. It's quite comfortable to live in. You can buy canisters for fresh water. Use construction water for non-potable water and empty the septic tank once a week.
Electricity via construction power.
The caravan is flexible, already equipped, and can be sold afterward.
The garden shed does not need to be hastily placed and furnished.
Shower at the gym, at work, or in the apartment. If necessary, book the cheapest fitness studio nearby for a year.
