Hello dear community,

my wife just came up with the idea of putting a log cabin on our parents' property.

My question now is:
Can the houses also be lived in all year round?
How is it with the cold in winter?

What hidden costs could arise?

The reason is as follows:
We are both currently giving up our permanent jobs and taking the step into self-employment. We both work as freelancers and also from home. A proper house wouldn't make sense in the current situation, but our parents would give up part of their garden (approx. 7,770m²).
So we planned to move into such a house temporarily before eventually buying a proper solid house.

What do you think about it?

Ah, my link was removed .. certainly because of advertising ...

For example, the log house KOPENHAGEN 107m² from Pineca (is that advertising now, too). The first result on Google search.

I hardly believe there is an insulated house approved by the Energy Saving Ordinance for 19,000€. As a weekend house, which might also be used temporarily in winter, that might be possible. Not as a residential house. Even as a weekend house, there will still be some costs. In addition to foundation, connection costs, electrical costs, costs for sanitation, stove/heating, there will also be many small costs.

For habitability (in winter) and usability, many questions arise:
- Building permit
- Foundation slab
- Insulation
- Development (electricity, water, gas)
- Electrical installation
- Sanitary facilities
- Heating
- Energy saving ordinance
....
The presented house is just a larger garden shed, maybe a holiday home in the holiday home settlement. If it is to be permanently habitable, you will have to invest a lot of money – or do you go to the parents' toilet, shower there, etc.

Of course, there are log cabins/round log houses that are approved as residential houses. But their prices will not differ much from other houses.
