Hello everyone,

we want to have the interior walls of our house plastered with lime plaster. Our plasterer applies the lime plaster in two layers. For the contract, we now have to decide on the execution of the second layer. Currently, we have three samples, two of which are felt plaster with different grain sizes. We will consult our plasterer again, but we are also interested in independent opinions and experiences. The questions are: What options are there for the second layer? What are the advantages and disadvantages of these? What good or bad experiences have you had? Fine felt plaster can cause hairline cracks. Is that true? How often does that occur? Thank you very much in advance!

I would definitely execute the second layer as finely as possible and then have it felted. There may be minimal cracks, but I would consider that normal.

Thank you for the response. Why should the second layer be as fine and felted as possible?

By the way, we only want to paint the plaster and not put wallpaper on it.

Here the question and answer are already opposed.

Felting smooths the surface. The finer the grain, the finer the surface.

If you only paint and cracks should form, it would be very unpleasant. Non-woven wallpapers, for example, can stretch a bit in an emergency and conceal this.

Who the hell makes a nice, expensive lime plaster and then sticks wallpaper over it???!
O.o

Ok, finer simply because it looks better when it is just painted.

Thanks for the tip about the non-woven wallpaper for emergencies. However, we hope that there are no cracks.
