We found light strips in the pictures we found mostly too sterile. But we also considered it briefly.

Depends, I think, more on the color temperature than on the geometry of the source. Just use a slightly warmer light.

An illuminated handrail instead of semi-ugly spots that only light up every 3rd or 4th step. A groove is milled into the handrail for the LED strip. It looks much more elegant, in my opinion.

I would plaster over the flush-mounted boxes for the spotlights and leave it at that. You don't have steps of the same width everywhere, it won't look the way you imagine. My suggestion: One wall outlet at the bottom, one wall outlet at the top. Done. The "stairwell" is about 4m². Think about how many lamps you hang in your study (10m²?) to have sufficient lighting there. For me, one on the ceiling and maybe a floor lamp at the desk is enough...
