Good evening to the forum,

I need an expert opinion on lighting planning in the bathroom.
A "lighting consultant" from a renowned lighting store here in the area recommended that we only work with indirect lighting in the bathroom.

Currently, there is a ceiling fixture centrally in the room (this is also where the lamp outlet is) and there is also a light above the mirror that produces quite bright cold light.

His recommendation was now to work with 3 LED spots at the bathtub and 2 LED spots on the shower wall.

The distance to the wall in both cases is 30cm. The spots themselves have a distance of 60cm from each other, but also start and end 30cm away from the wall.

The spots are dimmable and emit warm white light, the manufacturer is Mobilux GmbH from Syke.
I will control the spots via Homematic; the idea is to work with a double switch to switch/dim two LED circuits differently.

The ceiling is a drywall ceiling, which is dropped by about 10 cm (ceiling height approx. 240cm).

I am "puzzling" whether what he intends is really sensible.
When I lie in the bathtub, I look indirectly into the spots (even if they were dimmed).
If I need "more light" at the mirror, the spots at a distance won’t help me either.
I find it pointless to work with another lamp (apart from the one at the mirror) in addition to the five planned spots.

I also don’t know about filling the entire ceiling with x spots.

What are your opinions on this?

Thank you very much,
DasMoritz

Depends on the spots. Could be enough. However, looking into the spots is naturally suboptimal.

I recommend everyone to go for the flat LED lights instead of spots. Then 2 pieces are enough in the bathroom.

Hi Mycraft,

Thank you.
So, these lamps were offered:
LED recessed light round white IP65 12W 700Lm 2000-2800K Ra>90 from the manufacturer Mobilux GmbH

What exactly do you mean by your flat LED lights?
Flat LED panels or what exactly?

Thanks,
Moritz

Yes, I mean the flat panels in round or square shapes. They provide far better light than the pinpoint LED spots and you don't get that doctor's office feeling.
