Laying tiles on expansion joints

Thanks for the photo. It really looks completely undramatic, I expected it to be worse. So it will probably be like this for us: the transition from hallway to living room will have this look. Should be OK!

I think it's important that the pattern is continued exactly. In the light it looks even less dramatic, I just thought...

In which direction would you lay the wood-look tiles on the ground floor? What looks better?

I would also lay them horizontally. I almost always find that nicer... We have a very wide living room and still laid them horizontally, it somehow seemed more right to me.
I find it strange when you look along the long joint when you come in...
