Laying paving stones with a 2cm gap like lawn joint paving?

Hello,
we would like to pave (or have paved) our entrance area with paving stones,
these are not so-called "grass joint pavers".
However, we would still like wider joints so that a special grass mixture can be sown and grow in the joints.

Grass joint stones have factory-made "spacers" in the stone corresponding to the joint width,
can you also lay normal paving stones (according to the manufacturer "fill joint material 1-3mm") in the gravel bed so that the stones lie "stable" and still have a uniform joint (2cm)?
Are there spacers similar to those for floor or wall tiles that can be used as an aid?

This is how it should look in the end, see picture / or this is also how it looks when the stones are laid "normally".

What would speak against making or improvising spacers yourself?

Yes, also doable, made of wood or something like that. But does it "work," is it "stable" enough so that the composite of the paving stones does not "shift"? A paving layer was on site and he rather did not want to do it that way ... he wanted to use the open lawn joint pavers (but these only come in a few colors that we don't really like and are smaller). As a layman, I could also imagine that (at least with "spacers") it works, hence the question if anyone perhaps has experience or something ... And then a paver would also have to be willing to carry this out with 2 cm joints ... because of his warranty, hmm.

We installed "real" lawn pavers/paving stones (i.e., with integrated, invisible spacers), but the manufacturer of our stones (Limex) offers lawn joint crosses and T-pieces in their product range that are specifically designed for such purposes – you can then lay normal stones with lawn joints in a cross or stretcher bond. I think they do not manufacture them themselves but they look very similar to the products from Plattenfix.

It would be sensible to commit to one manufacturer who offers something like this in their system; then you can inquire there about the load classes for which such laid stones are suitable.

Tip: consider whether grass or sedum.

Wood weathers, I thought of plastic or concrete. Spacer crosses for example. I rather don't believe you'll find a specialist company that will install it like that for you. Alone because it will be quite fiddly if the stones don't have such spacers integrated and you have to jam them in yourself.

It will more likely end up with people with Eastern European license plates. They'll also pave a driveway with a slope towards the house for you, my neighbor tried that...

The XXL tile spacers are made cheaply by a 3D printing enthusiast. Or you can use pipes or hoses.
