Hello everyone,

Today we removed our topsoil (see below). Now I wanted to inquire about the final steps I need to complete before sowing the lawn.

1. Loosen compacted topsoil with a motor tiller and remove the last stones/weeds.
2. Compress the topsoil again using a lawn roller.
3. Lightly loosen the soil surface with a rake.
4. Apply the grass seed.

Would you agree with this or should I do something differently?

I also still have soil activator and fertilizer. Should I work them into the topsoil? If yes, when?

Is there anything else to consider?

Thanks in advance

Best regards
Jörg

Tiller. Then remove stones. Then sow, rake in the seed a little, roller. Do not fertilize yet. After emergence and the first cut, Blaukorn. What is Bodenaktivator?

Should I roll over after rototilling? So that the soil settles faster?

Soil activator is supposed to improve the soil substance. It's called "Neudorff Terra Preta."

What do you think?

No, not roll before, but after sowing. Please sow the seeds into the loosened soil, they germinate and take root more easily. Roll after sowing. A soil activator is not necessary, the soil fauna develops on its own via earthworms and such. Grass is a true nitrogen consumer, but in order to consume nitrogen it first has to grow, otherwise the nitrogen just pollutes the environment in the form of nitrate. For the initial growth, germination, and shoot formation, your humus has enough strength.

I would have loosened the soil slightly again after tilling and rolling before sowing. Rolling after tilling is only so that it settles faster again.

Should I fill the roller with sand after sowing? Or would that be too heavy?

I have had the humus since last year, and there was an extreme amount of weeds on it; are there still enough nutrients for the lawn, or do I still need to supplement?

Thanks again for the good tips
