Hello everyone,

I need your support with the kitchen planning. Specifically with the orientation of the kitchen island. This also affects the location of the dining table. Please excuse the presentation; it is a free planning tool (Home-by-me) ;).

Option 1 (kitchen island 120cm x 270cm):

Option 2 (kitchen island 240cm x 110cm):

In this 2nd option, it must be said that the passages on both sides would only be 90cm wide or the island would have to be "shortened."

What do you think is better? Where do you see advantages and disadvantages?

Thank you :)

Good morning!

From my point of view, clearly option 1.

Both the island and the table are, in my opinion, oriented "correctly."
1. When standing/working at the island, you have a complete view and never have your back to the interior of the room.
2. Likewise, (almost) all those seated at the table have the same view of the garden through the large window. Otherwise, some would be sitting with their backs to the garden and others would be blinded :) (Var.2)
3. The table visually creates a certain separation between the living area and the kitchen, which looks nicer than the long "corridor" in option 2.

Clearly option 2. Option 1 fits poorly in terms of proportions and extends too far into the space. Option 2 visually separates the room. A 90cm passage is sufficient. You can also nicely direct your view of your family/guests at the table behind the island and interact with them.

Then I'll throw option 3 into the ring; how about a cooking island of 1.80m x 1.80m? We built one like that into our kitchen and love it :)...

Kitchen island variant 2, table variant 1,
cooktop off the island, the TV chef is the only one who cooks facing the camera. He always says, I have prepared something here, and that is you.
If the cooktop stays on the island, move it to the window side with 30-40cm distance to place a pot and on the aisle side 1.5m of countertop.
