Hello everyone,

today our long-awaited wall construction work finally started. When we were at the construction site this evening to inspect the progress, we noticed the following.

Can someone help me whether this is serious and requires action? Or was this just the protection of the actual pipe and therefore not bad at all? I would really appreciate some support on this matter.

Best regards and many thanks!

You have to take a close look at this. Normally, it’s done like this: KG pipe with the socket on the top edge of the base slab and closed with a cap. This way, you can cleanly screed the base slab without anything being in the way. Afterwards, you remove the cap and can connect the next pipe to the socket. Maybe it’s done like this in your case too, only it wasn’t closed with a cap (perhaps because there wasn’t one left) but a small piece of KG pipe was inserted, which is simply replaced for further connections. But you have to check that. If not, maybe a piece around the pipe has to be uncovered again to be able to connect further. Which I can’t imagine because the laying direction would be planned incorrectly from the beginning that way.

Is there another pipe inside the KG pipe (this taped part?!). If yes, I would say that the KG pipe only serves to protect the actual pipe. At first glance, the inner thing definitely looks like a taped coupling to me. The size could also indicate a kitchen drain pipe based on the diameter.

The OP wrote about the water pipe. The KG pipe should only serve as a conduit. The site management will know.

As you rightly suspect, it is certainly only a "protective pipe" around the actual drain pipe.
