Is the shell construction overloaded? Current situation in the construction industry!

I had an interesting conversation with my electrician yesterday, which slightly startled me. Fortunately, it no longer concerns me, but he said that in the last 1-2 months he tried to find a shell construction company for a new build in his family.

The 2-3 shell construction companies he knows and contacted put him off until late summer 2019. Of course, all due to the good order situation.

I find this statement really shocking, especially when you consider that many people are currently in the planning phase and believe they can start at the beginning of 2019.

You have to imagine, the man is a professional and probably has more connections than many others here and simply cannot get a shell construction company.

Also regarding the Baukindergeld, it will become tight as it is only valid until 31.12.20 and can only be applied for upon moving in.

Honestly, I would not have thought the situation in construction is so precarious.

I didn’t notice. A year lead time and only with concrete planning in place, I find that quite harsh!?

It has been like this for a while. Most craftsmen here are not accepting orders for new buildings for 2019.

I have also been reading about this here in the forum for months. However, my best friend signed a contract about 1 month ago, and the construction is contractually confirmed to be completed by July 2019. My direct neighbor is currently having his roof redone, and he only placed the order last month as well. So... somehow it seems to be more relaxed here in Hamburg with the craftsmen. I also want to renew my garage roof. I will call around a bit next week and see if it can still be done this year. But I am quite confident. Just don't overestimate what you have read/heard. And if you search for "handwerker" on ebay classifieds, you will find some who have time. Not just "chatterboxes," but also professional companies.
