Is the lawn edge higher than the new lawn?

Hello everyone,

I have newly built and paved a 1-meter-wide path around the house including lawn edges.
Now the filling with topsoil is coming up soon, which will have to be between 20-30 cm due to the height.
Now the question is how high to fill with soil.
I have heard very different opinions.
Some say make it 3-4 cm below, the new turf will rise over the years and then it will also work with the lawn mower, and if the turf grows too high it is suboptimal.
Others say again make it level with the lawn edge because of the mower.

How did you do it and what are your experiences? I was also thinking to stay 4 cm below and then sow grass.

Best regards

The new ground is still settling. I have filled up to the same level and compacted it with a lawn roller. The top edge is now 2-5cm below the edge. That is basically annoying because a lawn mower robot cannot mow right up to the edge like that. So I would definitely not go deeper from the start.

Would you want to have this edge again regardless of the robot? So from an aesthetic point of view?

Here I have a non-compliance of the sewer shaft that I wanted to bring to height before

Even with regular mowing, the edge is annoying. The goal should be to be level. Lifting it afterwards is laborious and/or time-consuming. A little targeted compacting and tamping afterward is faster.

hm okay so probably have it filled flush. how does it behave with the sewage shaft? I would still need to bring it up to height, shouldn't be higher than the lawn (placed in the middle of the lawn). so how much deeper then? I can't influence how much the ground settles. Best regards

Set the shaft to the target height. To make the transition fit, one can a) fill in a little higher around the shaft; b) compact more strongly around the shaft; c) fill in little by little with soil or sand according to the proper growth of the lawn; d) later cut up the turf around the shaft and underpin it with soil.

There should be something for every taste.
