Is the canopy over the entrance too dark?

Hello everyone,

we have the handover soon. Unfortunately, the contractor forgot the porch roof and has now asked us to think about it. We are supposed to consider whether a covered porch roof might make it too dark for us. There is a meeting with the carpenter on Friday; alternatively, he suggested considering a glass roof. In the construction specifications, it just says "A porch roof over the front door with two wooden posts."

What kind of porch roofs do you have? Is it too dark for you in the cloakroom? We have a brick-clad gabled roof house with the entrance on the eaves side.

Thanks and best regards.

That would probably be an option – the question is whether it will be too dark. I'm a bit afraid that a modern glass roof on the one hand doesn't fit the house and on the other hand starts to leak after a while.

We have a glass roof, but our house is modern and simple. Something like that fits well.

Have you looked online? There is a lot of choice.

Too much; that's the problem
This morning we meet the carpenter - well - I do think that bricks suit us better.
With you, I can also well imagine glass.
Have you already had problems with cleaning?

Sorry, but I find such canopies absolutely inappropriate, way too bulky, actually darkening. The proportion between mass and size is always off. I would choose something lighter, it doesn't have to be modern. If omission is not an option ...

To put it very cautiously, I also find such a brick porch visually difficult.... It’s still okay if it is really built as an extension of the roof. In your case, however, it would be an addition that also has a different pitch than the roof. Somehow, that just doesn’t go together at all. Such a thing also gets dark very quickly, and the columns would bother me as well. If a porch, I would take a glass roof that hangs completely on the facade. I come from Münster, where there are almost only brick houses, and the glass porches look quite good there too. Best regards, Andreas
