Leipzig is not exactly the ultimate city where you absolutely have to live. I can say that because I know both Magdeburg and Leipzig. (I liked both, which is why it bothers me even more when wonderful cities like Magdeburg are bad-mouthed. Whatever...)

Sometimes it's easier to get to central points when living along the railway lines, for example Barleben

In Barleben, building land is currently just as expensive as in Magdeburg. This will apply to every place with S-Bahn connection, daycare, elementary school, and high school. It will only get cheap when none of that applies anymore.

But everyone has to decide that for themselves! I don’t want to judge anything here, but one shouldn’t compare apples and oranges.
