Is it advisable to build a house with our planned budget?

Hello!
Here are a few facts...
Southwest Germany... M 33 W 26 Child 2 years (1 still planned)

M: Senior employee 3300€ (expected to increase significantly again in 3-4 years)
W: Employee 75% position permanent 1100€ plus 300-500€ standby pay per month (but not firmly planned in the budget)
Child benefit 184€

Expenses:
Car: 300€ installment (excluding gasoline)
Insurances: 200€ (calculated exactly)
Gym membership: 80€
Mobile, landline and internet: 100€
Kindergarten: 150€

total 830€

House installment: 1230€

The house will be a single-family house in timber frame construction approx. 170 sqm.

Then 2524€ would remain for additional costs, groceries, general living expenses and saving.
No big vacation necessary.

What do you think of the calculation?

Thank you very much for your opinions!

So with today's interest rates, I wouldn't even consider whether to build or not... rent is often almost as high or higher than the mortgage payment in corresponding areas...

Even though the construction industry has recognized the trend and is "charging" here due to the increased building costs.

As a senior executive, you are quite insecure in your job – or do you just call your position that way ;) ? Because the salary wouldn’t exactly be generous for the position...

No, the job is absolutely secure. Shareholders and managing directors together with one other person in a financially very well-positioned company.

That should have been mentioned above.

In the case of self-employment (and as a partner and your own managing director, that is what you are), the bank is usually the sticking point, not whether you want it yourself.

From the pure numbers alone, it is not impossible.

Basically, I think it's great when building that you can implement pretty much all your wishes and ideas in the house.

The "numbers" of course also play a role.

As total income, my husband and I have similar figures to you.

We first dealt with how much money we want to spend. So with everything included. Then we looked for plots of land where our planned project could be realized. [Bebauungsplan]

When we found a suitable one, we went to some developers and had designs created and prices compared.

In the end, it was too expensive for us overall. We could have afforded it, the banks were willing to lend us the money, but I didn't want to have to pay off a house for 30 years.

Final result: we bought a [Bestads] property that we will have finished in 15 years, with special repayments even earlier :)
