Is a wood stove just a plaything with underfloor heating?

I generally find fireplaces to be a gimmick, but a nice one... it's just very cozy, especially during the winter months... on the other hand, I wouldn’t put one in the hallway... rather only where people really stay. You don’t spend much time in the hallway during the day.

No, that really doesn’t help. If you talk about an alpine hut in winter, but we’re talking here about highly insulated houses where the heating runs continuously, even at night. That tends to pull your socks off rather than looking for a heat source while rushing around.
