Absolutely necessary insurances as the owner of an owner-occupied property:
- Residential building
- Household contents
- Liability

Now the exciting question:
Do I need a building and landowner liability insurance?

What I have found out so far:

The violation of traffic safety obligations is also covered by the normal private liability insurance. So things like not gritting, or someone trips on my step at the entrance.

What about roof tiles that fly off in a storm and hit someone on the head / a car - are those covered?

Literally from Gothaer, for example:
"Insured for the ... properties and plots is the statutory liability a) from the violation of traffic safety obligations owed here (e.g., structural maintenance, lighting, cleaning, gritting, and snow removal on sidewalks)."

Yes, I will also call the respective insurances and ask ;) but I do not want to make dozens of calls.

How is it with yours?

If you rent out, it makes sense. For owner-occupied property not necessary, as PH is sufficient. If you rent out, it is included in the contribution from Haus und Grund. If affordable, include elemental damage from heavy rain etc. in the building coverage. For us, it was only 15,- extra, I did that. That's two pizzas from the pizza service per year. K.

Household contents insurance is certainly not absolutely necessary.
No, not for self-used residential property (see #2).

um... if the household contents insurance is not absolutely necessary... what about burglary/theft/vandalism/fire/(extinguishing) water damage? No one else covers that.
