Hello, we would like to build a prefabricated house in solid construction with the basic material Bähton (Liapor). Unfortunately, the providers only offer insulation with Styrofoam. We have doubts whether insulation with Styrofoam is really up to date?! We look forward to experiences, studies, or alternative suggestions! Thank you very much and best regards

Yes, it is absolutely up to date and just as normal as a monolithic wall structure. It has been used for 50 years, practically THE method of choice for renovations in old buildings.

A "prefab" house made of Liapor – I assume in panel construction? – then ask your provider when and how the insulation material is applied: during the production of the panels or on the construction site; fully glued, already placed into the form, or mechanically attached? If it is a composite material with the insulation as the outer layer, my "11ant Steinemantra" basically says that you would be unwise to change the recipe of the wall structure for warranty reasons. If it is even a sandwich, you probably won't be offered that option at all.

Thanks for the input. The walls are prefabricated in the factory including insulation; we could choose wood fiber insulation for an extra charge. The insulation material is Styrodur, which is probably a bit higher quality than Styropor. However, I am wondering whether the building will still actually be vapor-permeable?! Thanks and best regards

If vapor permeability is important to you and the manufacturer offers the option, then choose the wood fiber.

We had a supplier who works completely without additional insulation material on the outside. The walls there are 42 or 50 cm thick and do not require any additional layers. They don’t look like concrete walls at all, but rather open-pored. A normal plaster is applied on the outside and the plaster is already done in the factory on the inside. Check out raumbuild. I believe they build nationwide and place emphasis on sustainability, ecology, and the healthiness of all materials used throughout the entire house. Not just for the walls. We have the 50 cm wall and KFW 55.
