My house is supposed to get an ETICS. Area to be insulated 210 m2. Walls consist of masonry Poroton stones 36.5 cm from 1989. Polystyrene and MW are excluded. Multipor would be an ideal solution for me. I want to buy the material myself and then have it installed. The price of the material (Multipor boards 120 mm, plaster, paint, adhesive, mesh, profiles... all from Multipor-Ytong) is 57 € per m2 + VAT. Here is my main question: who has experience with Multipor as ETICS or who knows this material? Is it easy to work with?..... Thanks for any answers. Best regards Thib01

Hi,

maybe you should first find a craftsman who:

[*]is willing to work with the provided material
    [*]has experience with the material

especially the first point can be difficult, because the craftsmen also want to make a profit from the material.

And the second point is essential if the result is to be done properly.

Without knowing it in detail, it seems to me that this is basically a very lightweight Ytong stone? The processing already looks quite a bit more complex than EPS.

Best regards,

Andreas

Was it ever calculated what can be saved with the measure? Poroton 36.5cm should not have bad thermal insulation, even back in '89. Compared to that, 14,000€ material cost... you can heat for a long time with that. But you also picked out fancy panels, according to the list 33€/sqm, EPS costs a quarter of that. I can understand not wanting EPS, but if the calculation doesn't add up at all, it doesn't make sense anymore.

Hello,

I would like to hand everything over to one craftsman, i.e. processing and material. The problem is the price. I have 2 offers for MW, the price per sqm for the first offer is €149, for the second €178. I have to say the house needs a new premium plaster anyway, which is included in these prices. But since the Multipor boards are more expensive than MW, the price per sqm will be even higher with this material! Totally unprofitable

I suspect, unfortunately, that you are right. If you want to use good (and clean) material, it takes far too long to amortize it with the saved heating costs. I will probably only renew the premium plaster, the environment will unfortunately be a bit more burdened. Still, if I find a company that would do the work at a reasonable price, everything remains open. Hence the question whether this material is easy to work with.

Regards

Hello, I insulated the outside of my house with 160mm Multipor, my basement with 50mm Multipor interior insulation, and I am very satisfied! The house has a noticeably healthier climate from the first day because the insulation material really "breathes." Multipor consists of calcium silicate and was very appealing to me due to its purely mineral properties. Difference, my house was built in 1945 and is made of 24cm pumice stone. It was not difficult to notice the improvement here. Multipor is very crumbly, but very easy to handle and process. After everything is "glued" with lightweight mortar, everything must be secured with impact anchors and pre-plastered with Multipor lightweight mortar and mesh. Afterwards, the desired plaster/fine plaster can be applied. Hope I could help. Regards Christoph

I wouldn't be so sure about that. How much energy does the production, delivery, installation, and disposal of the insulation cost? And how much oil/gas could have been saved in the same time? I guess you would have to write a doctoral thesis to find out approximately. My gut feeling tells me that external insulation is almost always ecologically nonsense. Financially, it might sometimes pay off (in new construction).
