Hello,

I am a bit puzzled regarding the installation of these click tiles.
I live in a new building and would like to create a path with appropriate "click tiles" in the area of the rooftop terrace (flat roof, fenced).
The rooftop terrace is currently covered with classic round natural stones (approx. 6-7cm), beneath which there is a fleece.

Can I simply move the stones aside and lay the click tiles directly on the fleece, or should I put an additional base layer on top of the fleece?
So far, people have also walked on the stones that lie directly on the fleece, so I think an additional base layer is not necessary, but since I am not sure, I ask for the experts' advice. Thank you very much in advance.

Wood-based materials in outdoor areas, I would be skeptical?

The gravel also serves certain functions; there must be a reason why it was laid on your terrace. Among other things, it reduces the sunlight exposure on your waterproofing.

It is a wood-plastic composite (WPC) "is characterized by slip resistance and UV resistance - ideal for permanent outdoor use" - should therefore be suitable.

Unfortunately, this view is not correct! And there is sufficient potential for future frustration and trouble with wood-based materials, especially in exposed outdoor areas. WPC decking, whether as so-called solid decking or as a hollow chamber system, is offered only and exclusively for ventilated construction on load-bearing joists (substructure). Additionally, the condition must be met that the decking is installed with a 1-1.5% slope. A quick and durable alternative would be the installation of "GTI Max tiles" directly on the level fleece layer. The tiles are offered in multiple colors, consist of synthetic rubber, are about 6mm thick, and are equipped at the edges with a very durable dovetail locking system. A cost comparison with WPC decking is definitely worthwhile; regarding durability, the GTI tiles (from a practical point of view) would also be my recommendation! Regards and good decision: KlaRa

I have now decided to lay styrofoam boards on top of the gravel and place the click tiles on the styrofoam, an inexpensive and simple option that should also provide a certain durability... hopefully.

Of course, it is up to everyone themselves how they carry out an expansion for which they are responsible. Here in this forum, we have limited ourselves only to responses that promise a maximum of safety from practical experience regarding the prevention of construction damage (and thus the success of a trade). Styrofoam boards on a gravel bed and a mechanical locking of a wood-based panel certainly do not belong to the execution variants that are promising—at least in the medium term. So I wish you much success in carrying out the (quote) "affordable and simple variant"! Regards: KlaRa
