Installation of click tiles (wood composite) on roof terrace

I understand that this is not the optimal and usual execution, or even "botched work" as I would call it, but I don’t see what could seriously go wrong here, or even cause construction damage...? At worst, the durability is reduced, or did I overlook something?

I have now considered using XPS boards as a base, however the tiles have gaps where the sun shines through, which should not be a big problem, but would it be advisable to coat the boards? If yes, with what? And is XPS really that "problematic" (environment).
