We are currently in the process of buying a house. 20 years old (Hanlo timber frame construction) and of course somewhat worn. My wife is a big fan of underfloor heating and definitely wants to have one again. Especially in the living room. During the viewing, the previous owner (unfortunately not very knowledgeable about building services) said that an electric underfloor heating system had been installed under the tiles in the living room (some of which are already cracked). Now we want to remove these tiles because they are cold and not particularly attractive, and instead lay laminate flooring. I already know that the laminate cannot be laid as a floating floor but must be glued down because of the thermal bridge. Is any commercially available laminate suitable for this, what kind of adhesive should we use, and what else do we need to consider?

Do you want to glue down because there is an electric underfloor heating installed? I would not glue laminate. It is generally not designed for that.

Well, the heat is supposed to somehow get to the laminate surface. If I have the impact sound insulation in between, it acts like insulation and the substrate is heated, right? o_O

We also installed our parquet flooring as a floating floor. There is a special impact sound insulation suitable for underfloor heating. The same applies to laminate. As a rule, it is suitable for underfloor heating. I know that parquet can also be glued down. Laminate is usually always installed as a floating floor. I believe the losses are not so significant that you notice them.

Since the expertise in our local hardware store... well.... Is such impact sound insulation commonly available or is there a specialist dealer for such special building materials?

Why impact sound insulation when there is only the foundation underneath?
