We are in the process of installing a new kitchen. So far so good. But now we have a problem with the wall rails for the hanging cabinets. Although we have looked at the drawings several times, we somehow don't understand them. When I first saw the rails and the mounting brackets, I thought: Great – rail on the wall, brackets on the cabinets and just hang them up. But in the instructions, there is a picture showing that you are not supposed to simply hang the cabinets on the lower rail?????? What are those strange plastic parts that are supposed to be screwed in somehow? Is there a proper instruction somewhere on how the cabinets are to be attached to the rails?

Can someone explain this to me?

Do you mean step 14 in the instructions? The small picture at the top right shows that the bracket on the edge must not hang only partially on the rail. Below it shows how, after hooking the cabinet, it is secured with the plastic part.

Yes, the textless Ikea instructions are a science in themselves.... In my layman’s words: you hang the cabinet onto the rail. Then you slide it to the left or right until the carcass is exactly in the right spot. Then you fiddle the plastic thing in as shown and turn it half a turn with the screwdriver, because then the things are fixed and the cabinet no longer shifts sideways.

@Schnecki:

Yep, that's how it is. I also just struggled through it and am very glad that the rails can still be adjusted in height thanks to the great lock washers - the rectangular washers. Once you get it, it's a neat thing.

I'll join this thread since I also have a question about the wall rails.

I have a tiled backsplash on the wall in my kitchen and want to install the wall cabinets so that the bottom edge of the cabinets lines up exactly with the backsplash.

However, I am wondering how far above the backsplash I need to attach the wall rail.

If I understand the installation instructions correctly, the wall rails do not align with the top edge of the wall cabinet but are mounted slightly below it. But how much exactly below?

No guarantee: For me, the distance between the top edge of the cabinet and the top of the rail is almost exactly 4.5 mm.

Hope it helps.
