Hello first of all,

so I am assembling my new METOD kitchen and now have the following question:

Do the base cabinets have to be attached to the wall or can/is/is it enough to just use the legs, as with most other kitchens???
Unfortunately, I cannot find a clear Ikea recommendation.

Thank you very much in advance.

Hello, IKEA says the cabinets must be fastened to the wall. However, this is not due to any special construction of the cabinets, but there are conceivable cases in which the cabinets could tip forward and cause damage. With the general requirement to fasten the cabinets to the wall, IKEA is also on the legally safe side. For some cabinets, the fastening also serves for lateral stability.

Ok, yes I have already seen that as an advantage and it is also correct.

The question I have, however, is: "Is there any loss of stability," meaning, can I now set up the cabinets without [worrying about tipping]?

Thank you

I would not necessarily place a single (narrow) cabinet standing alone, but if several are placed next to each other, screwed together and the countertop is firmly screwed, it is usually not a problem, I have never attached my base cabinets to the wall and they have held for many years.

Hello,

I think the most important thing is whether the tipping moment actually comes into play. If you only have hinged doors on the base cabinets, I find wall mounting unnecessary.
However, for example, we have full pull-outs/drawers (even under the sink), and when unloading the dishwasher, it often happens that three pull-outs are open at the same time, and these are the heaviest ones with dishes, pots, and glasses. Since we have the base cabinets mounted on the wall, this is not a problem.
Without wall mounting, one should definitely consider how many pull-outs/drawers are opened simultaneously.

Regards

Thank you very much. YES, basically common sense wins here anyway. Load, weight, tipping is actually clear. I have an old building (Vienna) and what was planned as 4 holes quickly becomes 20. I am now screwing the strips on, but still using 4 legs per cabinet since they were bought. Thanks already. Photo to follow.
