How to set up Ikea Expedit shelf - tips?

I got an Ikea Expedit shelf which I want to set up right now and need some tips...
Can someone tell me if I should assemble the shelf better lying down or standing up.

It could be crucial for a good result.

I think lying down is best, but it will probably also be described that way in the instructions.
