Hello everyone,

We would like to buy a new sofa now, almost a year after moving into the new house. We currently still have an Ikea sofa, but that should then go to the basement.
We would like a U or L shape and have already been to several furniture stores. The budget is max. 4000 euros, which is certainly not much for such a sofa, but you can get something for that. In most furniture stores, you find the same, mostly Poli.. or Stein... So manufacturers who have their products made in Poland, which I think is okay. Online reviews are often mixed, but the furniture stores are not self-service markets, so I hope they carry quality goods.
Our problem now is the room geometry. I have made a sketch in the attachment. The problem is that one leg of the U or L would be on the window front, and there is also the radiator there. So I don't know how practical that is. The radiator should not be covered. Then there would be the question of how big the distance to it would have to be. We have now found a sofa that on the side where the window would be has a chaise longue; that would only cover a small part of the radiator and mainly the lower area because it is not that high.
It would be 3 m long on the wall side. The wall itself is 4 m to the fireplace. If we want to install a wood-burning stove someday, it will be tight. Then it would have to stand at most to the side.
Do you have any idea if this could work like that?
I have roughly drawn the sofa as well (sorry, a bit confusing).

Hello Hubi!

Regarding the fireplace or the future stove, I don't have a concrete assessment, but I also don't see a big problem with a 1m distance.

As for the radiator, I see no problem at all, since, as you yourself write, only a small part will be covered.
This sofa spot will probably even become your favorite place, with a view outside and warm feet! ;)

I think so too.

Personally, I wouldn't use a fixed U because then you can't do anything else with it... rather extend a sofa with an ottoman. That way you're more flexible.

Now it will be an L after all. We have found a couch, the heater is already partially covered. As marked in the photo (according to the marking with the tape). But I don't think we will place the couch completely against the heater.
