Hello, we would like a completely white painted (recently executed) winder staircase and have already received proposals from the general contractor/stair builder.
The standard of the general contractor includes a beech bolt staircase.
The stair builder’s proposal is to use ash and then paint it completely white, with the note that the stair treads will be scratch-sensitive.
I only have an appointment with the general contractor in about 2 weeks and would discuss the topic then, but what are your experiences with this? Is it so sensitive that it needs to be restored every few years, or is it not that bad? The staircase would be from a well-known stair builder from the region with very good reviews, so definitely not cheap. Any protection on the steps would probably not be visually appealing again?
If the concerns are too high, we would probably rather switch to oak steps and then not have them painted accordingly. Visually, however, we favor a completely white painted winder staircase.
