How much does an architect cost?

we are currently looking for an architect in Berlin. The first one we contacted immediately quoted the maximum according to the fee schedule. That really shocked me. How expensive were your architects?

You should get several offers, an architect always has some leeway and if you say that you have one who can offer it cheaper, they usually lower the price. It's like poker, a little bluffing is necessary.

I have also experienced that the nerves get on edge when you say you still have many other architects you want to ask, and you want to check if they charge less. Then they suddenly lower the price... but you should always ask others anyway.

Just as Fliese says, we did it that way too. And ALL of them lowered their prices. The one we ultimately chose even by a third. Others lowered even more, but they were not as good.

I would also definitely advise never to accept the first offer. Always ask several for samples of work and price expectations. We chose the architect with the best price-performance ratio, and he also lowered the price because there was competition.

Yes, I think the others are right! And just as Rohbau describes it, my parents did it the same way. It is important to make all the architects realize that you are also looking elsewhere and that there are other offers that might be cheaper. Most of them are then usually willing to lower the price (which is usually exaggerated at the beginning anyway).
